New Puppy Support

Getting a new puppy?

Congratulations on your new arrival!  Owning a puppy is a fun and exciting time, but it can also be a time of uncertainty and stress.  Please be assured that we are happy to help you every step of the way, either from a medical or behavioural perspective.

Since the Covid-19 outbreak we’re having to work in slightly different fashion.  Normally we would ensure our team were talking you through any concerns you had during regular puppy visits in our practice and our puppy party. We’re finding that whilst the support is still there, people aren’t approaching us for help as much as they used to.  The purpose of this page is to ensure you know we are there for you, every step of the way.

Bringing your puppy home for the first time is an exciting step in your journey together. Ensuring that you have prepared your home thoroughly and thought through how to manage the first few days, can help to make the transition as smooth and stress free as possible, both for you and your new addition.  Click here for advice and helpful information.

Having a new puppy can feel daunting at times, and you’ll be pleased to know that we work very closely with the local training & behaviour experts, Pet Necessities.  They are based in Egham and can assist you on an individual basis, during a training class or remotely if that suits your needs more appropriately.  You can find lots of information on them and the services they offer at www.petnecessities.co.uk

The most important thing you can do during this time of your puppy’s development is to ensure they are settled in home, happy to be handled by everyone and they are well socialised with a wide array of stimuli. It is important to practise handling exercises with your puppy from day one. Teaching your puppy to remain calm and confident whilst being handled, will ensure that as an adult dog he can cope with every day scenarios from being groomed to being examined by the vet. Early puppy socialisation experiences are vital if you want your puppy to enjoy a lifetime of confident, friendly communication with the world around them. Click here for advice and helpful information.

Please don’t forget to ask for help if you are worried about your puppy’s development, health or behaviour in any way.

Also, don’t forget to sign up to our Pets1st Health Club so you can start receiving regular health checks, parasite control and vaccinations which all help to keep your new puppy in great shape  throughout their lives.
